For about $2700, I would recommend the Aquadive GMT.

Very hard to suggest ley... especially when you admit that you're a easy flipper...
Maybe a limited edition to lock you down?
A limited edition that no others will buy from you?

Hmmm... how about...

3k? Many many choices...MM300, emperor tuna, GS Quartz, basically lots of JDM options...orient saturation diver, longines legend diver, longines hydro conquest, pre-owned Omega PO, pre-owned Omega speed master etc

I am leaning towards the AD bs100 gmt. Would be great to get it as it would be my first gmt. Yellow bears some remembrance to the superocean 42.

I think your wrist is not the girl girl type. Can wear 40mm and above watches.

If you're keen on a nice Swiss watch and don't mind pre-owned, a Omega Speedmaster is highly recommended here for good reason. Iconic, rich history, great looks.

A vintage Rolex DateJust would be a beautiful choice too. I got one for myself on my birthday this year. A SS model can be had for less than 3k.

Had an omega speedmaster before. But i sold it not long after i got it. Vintage rolex datejust might be an option.

Am still considering this tag http://www.ablogtowatch.com/tag-heuer-f ... gmt-watch/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; since it looks very much like my grail.

Hmm that tag GMT looks like the BLNR, won't be cheap also and Tag generally truly sucks at retaining value, should just spring for the BLNR

Well... what can i say... but what i see here, is perhaps you have come to a point where you're in the bottleneck of the hobby, nothing else will be a sure keeper as you have perhaps owned, touched, felt most of the watches in the market that what ever comes next, will be just like any other watch you had a fling before.
Instead of brand and the potential value one piece may hold... i suggest that you look for something unique, something uncommon, not just buy it for yourself, but the potential to hold it till your juniors grow up in later years, they hold it for you. That's something more meaningful in a self give birthday gift than any other gifts you received.

3K is quite alot for me, but in this hobby, some other unique piece of work costs more than this figure. If you can find one that's priced more friendly than your budget, good for you. You can even use the rest of the balances to hoot a bottle of special brew and enjoy it while you're fondering with your unique birthday piece...
