How to distinguish Seiko AD (Thong Sia agent warranty card) vs grey import
https://seikoparts.wordpress.com/2015/0 ... ay-import/

Thought it may be useful to all.

I was talking to a friend whom was working at Seiko AD (Thong Sia) previously.
This is how they distinguish Seiko Local Authorized Dealer (Thong Sia's agent) and gray import warranty card (see below).

Warranty card with the prefix of "521" in the warranty card denote Seiko Local Authorized Dealer (Thong Sia's agent).
Japan Domestic Model (JDM) has a prefix of "899" in the warranty card. To make a claim, the warranty card MUST be stamped.

*those with Seiko International Warranty (JDM) should still be valid outside Japan but repair and claims will have to be done in Japan (send back to Japan!).

Other prefix are consider self import, grey market, parallel import. Warranty claim may not be applicable.

*this may defer from country to country local AD policies.

Strange , my SBDC027 Seiko AD warranty card has a prefix of "899" as I purchased the watch from Japan. I have sent my SBDC027 to ThongSia twice within a month for warranty repair for poor timing keeping and stopping issue. ThongSia recognized the warranty card and done the repair locally with zero repair cost.

Seem this below statement not correct then .
*those with Seiko International Warranty (JDM) should still be valid outside Japan but repair and claims will have to be done in Japan (send back to Japan!).

I guess normal timing regulating can be done locally.
Only repair and claims needs to be send back to Japan.

As far as I know from dealing with TS. As long as it is the international warranty card like this

Image
Stamped and dated by an actual authorized dealer, regardless of country or region, they would repair here in sg for free.

For Japan domestic warranty like this

Image
If it is stamped and dated by authorized dealer, they will assist to send back and coordinate repair in Japan. The repair will be free if still within warranty but they will charge $80 for the courier both ways.
This was my experience with my tuna with Japan domestic only warranty and sumo with international warranty card from higuchi

The truly gray import set we buy from skywatches, twinkle, k2 and mustafa will come with neither of the cards. Thus only shop warranty.

Beware that they are some sellers on watch forums and carousell that will give you a international warranty card dated with dealer name hand written. They claim it's from "authorized dealer" . But I doubt very much?
