Servicing your Russians & Chinese

Post by Cosmograph » 08 Aug 2012 08:30

Just wanted to know where SC members bring their Russians for a check up or maintenance?

Any reputable watch repairer etc? Would love to hear recommendations etc.

I remember reading that Singapore adopted the largest Russian collector Mark Gordon in the world ( formerly an American but Singapore has been his home for years now) http://ussrtime.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; :P

Yes, he send most of his watches to AMK Watch Co @ Thomson Plaza, I went there once to ask for an opinion, apparently the opinion is very expensive. :(

Anyway for simple movement servicing, Goh from K2 can do it, BUT he don't do repair. At least he can do regulation and simple cleaning for a small fee..

Else you can always go to Red Army Watches, they can do both servicing and repair of Russian movements.

Didn't know that red army does servicing for all Russians. Something new.

Chinese movements, Bo Lang is it? After all their heritage is miyota & ETA it seems... or maybe not worth the time and $$

Yup, I visited their service center and outlet @ Little Red Dot, asked a friendly staff there, she said they can service vintage 3133, so I presume the other Vostoks are possible.

Beside, I know of 2 instances that they repaired/replaced faulty parts for the Poljot 3133 (date window won't advance) and Molnija 3603 (1 of the wheel slip during time setting) powered watches.

As for Chinese, hehe.. no idea.

Bros, I usually send my komandriskis to JOO CHIAT WATCH DEPT STORE located at block 183, #01-288, Toa Payoh Central (310183). It's the old Toa Payoh Central shop houses.. Two blocks away from
The HDB hub.

This uncle call Mr Soon is an eccentric person.... Which is common among watch technicians (I also dunno why).. Usually servicing of my mechanical hand wound Russians is $35... Chronos around $70-80. But due to his weird eccentric weather like mood... He sometimes has this attitude problem. He will at times chat nicely to u while at times just simply brush u off saying "cannot do"... Well take it with a pinch of salt.. Old man usually like this.

So far my watches services by him are keeping good timing... Runs well and no complains.

Another shop to try is 吴小春 (pronounced as WU XIAO CHun) at Chinatown market ground floor. Just come down from escalator and turn left and follow the toilet sign.. U will see his small little shop. Repairs and service citizen also.. Other old watches also.. This uncle has boh chap attitude but still considered friendly. Price wise i not very sure as I dealed with 2 times only.. But he seems quite well known

The watch shop at Thomson plaza repair price quite steep. My friend tried sending one to them and heard equally not friendly (is it the father or the son?)

Elder Goh does not repair Russians. I already asked him before.

Has anyone tried the shop at Bendemeer shopping area? There is this old watch shop there and the old man seems to have different old watches there.

I used to go there to replace seals and batteries for my older swiss models. But just like most old men, they can get cranky if you catch them on a wrong day.

I just walked up to the Bendemeer Shopping Mall JinDu shop you mentioned, asking if the old uncle does service Russians or not. He asked me back izzit auto or hand wind, and he wants me to bring the watch to let him see first.
So I guess, maybe he know something. Guyz might want to try him...?
Btw, his shop got lots of vintage stuff, vintage fanatics here might want to pop in someday.

Where do you stay? Or do you prefer to go there after work? Unlike Dr.GOH, this old fella's shop closes everyday at about 7pm or slightly later before 8. Driving? Public transport?
