I got this watch 6 years ago as a gift. A precious gift from my ex-girlfriend-now-wife on my 30th Birthday. Just like how all my heavy metal music friends commented, “If you wish to start listening to Heavy Metal, you got to go back old-school.”. We stand firm on this statement. It goes the same for watches, right?

This bad boy right here: The Dievas Vintage 3646. It’s vintage looking alright… nuff said, let’s get on with the review.

What I like about this watch (Part 1):
The size: At 47mm, it may sound monstrous on the wrist, but it’s actually very comfortable and very wearable. It’s a case where less is more but MORE IS STILL MORE. I feel unsually confident whenever the 3646 is on my wrist.

The Origin: Dievas is a Singapore Brand and I got to know the owner and creator after a few purchases from him. There’s a bit of “Majulah Singapura” (Singapore’s National Anthem) syndrome after hearing his story about how began this business. I really wear this timepiece with a lot of pride.

What I like about this watch (Part 2):
The construction: It’s solidly built; unlike other Asian Homages (Mainly from China), the 3646 from Dievas feels like strudy, and the choice of using the Swiss made Unitas 6479 gives the wearer a vote of confidence that the watch would stand the test of time.

The Original Dievas Leather Straps: At a whooping 26mm in diameter, the Knife-Cut strap made of genuine leather straps is of very high quality and very comfortable to wear. It did not take too long before the watch feels next to nothing on my wrist.

What I like about the watch (Part 3):
The Sandwich Dial: The “Sandwich Dial” may seem a little toy-like to first glace, but it’s really one of those the-more-I-look-at-it-the-more-I-like-it moments. It really gives the 3-6-9-12 a deeper dimension and make the numbers really pop. Quite a nice attention to details by Dievas.

The dome Sapphire Crystal: Another feature that makes the 3646 pop! In certain angle, the dial is magnified due to the curvature from the crystal. 47mm is already considered large in current watch trend, but the dome crystal makes her look even bigger. More is still more. Hurray.

What I like about the watch (Part 4):
The transparent case back: The Swiss Made Unitas 6479, with the Cote De Geneva Blue Screws, is a joy to watch especially after being wound up. Looking at the spring in motion, is like feeling heart beat. Very energetic, very alive. Another joy to watch.

The look: Very handsome. Simple. Clean. Just wants to tell you the time accurately. Because of it’s sheer size, the wearer can be sure that telling time would be easy when when he/she is 64. Maybe one for Sir Paul McCartney huh?

What I thought the watch can improve: Dievas is a Singapore Brand, while boasting that their time pieces are made in Germany (and some from Switzerland). The 3646’s sterile dial has no indication of the country where it’s made, except for the Unita Movement with the “Swiss Made” engraving.

Image

I have to admit, I used to have such pet-peev where I get pretty uneasy without a clear indication of the country of origin of watches. It would certainly give the wearer / buyer a further piece of mind if “Made in Germany” or “Swiss Made” can be indicated on the dial or the caseback of the 3646. It could be mistaken for a china assembled piece with a Unitas 6479 for some folks who are particular. (Their current pieces as of 24/10/2016 comes with “Made in Germany” engraved on the case back).

Image

However, the 3646 is meant to be a close tribute to the infamous “Italian Frogman” and there is no country of Origin Stated on the dial or at the case back of the real deal. What Dievas is trying to achieve, I quote from their website “It is a very accurate tribute. From the case, crystal, crown, dial and hands down to the finest dial. No detail is spared.”

I am just going to enjoy my 3646 without thinking too much.

Conclusion: The Dievas 3646 is mean. It’s huge. It’s handsome. It’s vintage looking. It’s simple but complex at the same time. It’s blast from the past to the 21st Century, creating waves and encouraging even more Asian Homages popping up like wild mushrooms. I like it a lot. I won’t sell it.
Just when other aspiring watch makers all over world want to start riding on the 3646 wave, remember Dievas got there way before you guys did.
