My trades over the past 2 months

Post by ivan » 29 Nov 2011 18:02

While browsing ard at woodlands causeway point. I had this strange thought. What did I gain after this 2 months since I started watches.

(watches owned before not taken into consideration)

1) UFO (owned abt 1 month) - lost $120
2) Bullhead (owned 3 days) - lost $20
3) Azimuth bombardier I (owned less than a day) - lost abt $70
4) azimuth bombardier IV (owned abt 2 weeks) - lost $200
5) SKX 011 I think (orange) (owned less than 12hrs) - lost $50
6) sumo (owned less than 2 weeks) - lost $130
7) cyclops black & red (owned abt 1 months for both) lost $100
8) tuna sbbn017 (owned less than 1hr) - lost abt $120

Will fill up if I remember if I miss out others.....

Ha ha ha .....

Ivan bro, probably because you havent(still finding) found your focus point...though there isnt strictly any real focus point for most of us here but probably narrowed focus of collection..

I lost a lot on some swiss watches, not easy to sell, too many brands esp on vintages..sometimes buy $1000 is sell $400 nia...and buy $650 get back $300 nia..I treat them as lesson learn to buy/not to buy certain brands/movement/models etc.. most bros here can easily buy rolex subs just based on their loss made..

some of your watches are priced really well...of course to SCS bros benefit...but actually no need IMO if your cost price is already very good...no need to sell at loss for some 2nd hand watches you bought.

Unless you are first owner and bought from shop front, then although mint, ppl would still expect a discount since its "2nd hand watch" riao.. but if you bought a used watch from someone at nice price..you can still sell at your cost price.. its justifiable mah... and even if need to give discount, doesnt need to be a blue bill.... 10-30 dollars can do..

Some used watches you had sold were bought and owned for a very very short period(hours to days)...no reason to lose money(know your a nice guy ;) ) and hope no SC bros try to makan you... :?

I think patience and a sharp nose are our best friends.... ;)

End of the day we made the choice to buy and sell at the prices that we bought and sold at. If we over-committed or mismanaged our cash-flow and as a result faced time-pressure to sell, that's a direct result of our own decision-making. Same for property investments and stock market. My report card for my aggressive investments this year is -S$120,000+, realised loss, not paper loss. But my decisions and timing, so I'm at peace.

That's why I prefer local deals with familiar bros - there's more flexibility to manage the cash-flow (e.g. hold the watch) and cash outlay (thru partial trades). Best is cashless trades - sometimes all we want is a change of scenery, and cashless trades are win-win for both parties.

My top few losses in terms of %.

1) skx031 bought new
2) ecozilla bought new
3) u1 bought new (which I eventually bought back)

But burnt myself most (absolute amt) playing with Swiss pieces, even though it is relatively small % loss
I kept track of my p/l from watch flipping on a google spreadsheet, so far loss like $3k++ overall since 7 yrs ago.

I'm seeing red on my stock investments as well, though it's yet to be realized, but I don't see it going green anytime.

Hospital bills are the main $$ suckers this year, but investments in health is always the best investment. Paid like $100k this year to mount e... They should give me some membership discount, which I hope I wun get it benefit from in future...

My trades over the past 2 months

Post by ivan » 30 Nov 2011 21:04

The experience gained this 2 months through the trades is overwhelming, i would say.

From wanting to hoot any watches that come in my way to now, carefully choose the ones that i think i will keep, there is a shift and change of mentality.

Although to some, the lost I had is a heart pain, I take it as a lesson. Although I have to admit, this is not the biggest lost I had on watches. I had suffered a 50% lost on a watch due to the fact that, I needed the money urgently almost a yr ago. That was a Pam 253 flyback regatta. Of cos, then I was a 1 watch person.

Now, the fun to go through watches and found the one you have been eyeing for awhile is fantastic.

I would not say what theme of watch I am collecting, but I can tell u guys, is the process of finding the ones that you have set your mind on that thrills me no ends.

So what's next for me? Well.....
I have my list, and I believe you have yours.

So let's enjoy!!!! YEAH!!!!

me worst case la... lose money thanks to singpost always make my thing disappear
Time is free, but it's priceless. You can't
own it, but you can use it. You can't keep
it, but you can spend it. Once you've lost it
you can never get it back.
