Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.

Post by hbk75 » 27 Jan 2014 21:49

I was looking at the pictures here and at watchuseek on the seiko sumo. Decided to order one from last thusday Higuchi and received it today. Higuchi is really fast and reliable, still gave me a handmade Japanese style card. :D

The watch in real life is jin chio, workmanship almost on par with the Sinn U1 which I failed to buy back in year 2006. Back then the Sinn U1 was only $1800. But this Sumo is also chio and even cheaper.

It change my perception of Seiko liao. I use to buy those Seiko 5 and it gave me the impression that they are budget watch because of the normal finishing. They are good but not as fine as the Sumo. Now I got a very nice dive watch liao.

RRP is just under 3K. Like you I was awed by the Sumo until I came across the mm300. I totally drop the idea of sumo and started saving for the mm300. It's has got this vintage elagence diver/tool watch look n feel. It's its got a GS movement + GS quality.

Agree skip the mm300 and go straight for a GS. Finishing is a whole lot better.

in terms of finishing, no other seiko range can beat the GS. That's for sure.
But i feel every Seiko fan should own or have atleast owned the MM300.

MM300 is an iconic diver in the seiko lineup and has its place in the Seiko dive watch line.
For one, a bro kindly observed that its the ONLY current production Seiko 300m saturation diver with a mechanical movement.
It is a classic and always will be a classic.

it does depend on what you look for in a watch when you are buying.

Totally agree.
If it's a diver that you seek.
MM300 is top notch in terms on bulit and movement.
If you are heading towards the dressier direction.
GS would be a fine choice.
But based on versatility, formal, informal, MM300 is IT.

agreed a saturation diver without the use of HEV and is a one-piece case for that price is really vfm!

(although the mm300 clasp is a scratch magnet and the dull finish and quality could be improved... nevertheless the ratcheting dive extension is great)
