I run a local plastic modeling forum and its the same trend.Social media have taken over the sharing of information and 'likes'.
Nevertheless members are still around reading the posts. It's the getting pple to post daily on threads and posts that is 'challenging' to keep the forum 'alive'.

most of the guys surf via tapatalk instead of lappy or desktop, by using tapatalk, the 'switching' btwn some sub-forums may be slightly inconvenient, maybe that's why i guess.

tbh, personally, i also dun post much when on tapatalk, lol

but when i'm home, i'm on lappy so it's more convenient ;)

on the contrary, it's way better for me to make comments via tapatalk cos my wife usually hogs the only laptop at home for online shopping! But hey, people grow up, get married, have kids & lose time. But it's the effort that counts, no matter how small. :)

I notice a similar trend of reduce traffic among all forums of different interest. I reckon this is due to the impact of Facebook, Twitter and whatsapp group. Nowadays most people especially the younger ones prefer a more informal approach to sharing experience and information. And the influx of smartphones, iPads and tablets that works better with a simpler interface like Facebook, Twitter and whatsapp. Forum interface is consider as old school unfortunately. The Tapatalk apps definitely helps to boost the forum traffic. I use tapatalk 100% in all my posting. Just sharing my 2cents.

This is a very interesting topic and also my interest for technology.

Well you can see some groups formed in Facebook got hundreds of members within weeks with almost hourly or minutes posts and comments because of the very users friendly mobile platform.

We are on the phones almost all the time, so apps like tapatalk really bridge the gap. I had tapatalk installed like within months of the forum launch because this is the behavior, everybody is going Mobile First. Like banks, telco etc.

Noticed when I load tapatalk, it shows there's like 400 followers for SCS. That's so much more than our active posters.

While posts are declining, it's also because of our location. We are a small country, after a few meet ups or trades, people get into whatsapp groups too. Instant IM chat it's like the good old IRC days.

But the forum is here to stay. There's no other better place to look for historical information and other knowledge.

Try searching for things on FB. It's always a spoon fed culture, where to buy ah ? What's the price ah ? Etc etc. Replies in comments and that useful info get buried.
