I too thought the black would work best, but then the patina of the dial goes better with a reddish brown strap.. I suspect it would go well with black if the dial was original condition.. In the end I got a Hirsch 'Crocolook' strap..

Message back from IWC..

It is a reference 602A and was shipped to Melbourne in May 1964..

Apparently they hold records right back to their first watches.. For a fee I can get a full authenication paper.. Also, they can supply all the original hands, dial, crown, etc to bring it back to original.. All provided I send it to them via the authorised agent in my country.. They hold stocks for all their watches..

Great find! Never had the chance to visit antique markets recently. I think i need to include that in my routine.

Not one for the purists perhaps.. But I managed to get a crown for ref 803 from the same timeframe.. The catalogue photos seemed to have crowns that may have been the same..

No, worked with my friendly watchmaker and kept watching online sites for the crown.. One day perhaps.. who knows..
