【一】Seiko Historical Laurel Reissue

Which watch does vintage Seiko collector look for?
Laurel 1913 I would say will be one of them. Market as laurel in name, produced in 1913 as first Japanese wristwatch.

Why does the name not Seiko? Seiko brand name was only market in 1924 that probably the only reason behind.

Year 2013 being 100th year anniversary. Seiko release the Seiko Presage series, SARW005 and SARX011. Both are Limited Edition of 500 pieces marking the 100th Anniversary of the Laurel, Seiko's 1st wristwatch.
Both pays homage to the original with a classic enamel dial and hands but upgraded to 40mm case size( modern sizing I reckon). Both are equipped with 6R movements.

Seiko SRP385J1 also release in 2013, this is style closely to laurel alike with red12 hour marker standing out. This is limited 1,500 pieces running 4R36 movement.

So which is truly laurel 1913 copy?
Let have a look at Year 2000. It is a special year where Seiko have released a series of seven iconic watches. All are equally hard to come by and being reissue they are upgraded with new movement at that point of time.

Laurel being iconic to Seiko is not neglected as it is such an important part of Seiko history.

Introducing the Laurel reissue, SCVM001.
This enamel dial watch with a twist, there is no red 12 hour marker as compared to its origin.

This is limited to 1,000 piece with retail price of ¥100,000 (SGD 1,515 approx using 28 Dec 2000 rate at 65.9658).

Laurel SCVM001- Year 2000 Historical Collection.

A small watch by today definition, measured 30mm without crown with 4s28 manual winding movement.
The enamel dial when close up have its imperfection but that the beauty of enamel dial. Enamel dials are incredibly delicate and labor intensive to create, and as result, rarely seen nowadays in Seiko watches. The turquoise blue cathedral hour and minutes hands fitted nicely on the dial with sub cream seconds dial. Due to its petite size it is mounted on Seiko-style bund strap with laurel style buckle.

Below is a pictorial presentation of laurel. It is in NOS condition, 14years old and counting... A wrist shot on 5" wrist included as well. Enjoy.

The laurel reissue looks very good; i guess over the years, thats one of the main seiko design element, clean dial and elegant look. not to mention the blue hands :)

too bad it should be pretty rare and expensive now.
