Anyone here owns or has interest in Mondaine watches? Nearly picked up a Simply Elegant a few months back. Love the dial, based on the Swiss railway clock design.

Local price too high not surprising. Less market penetration rate ma... hence less quantity brought in, much too higher price lo...
Online shopping is often suggested or this brand. Just an Automatic with day date can be get @ less than $700, or much lesser depending on the Euro x-rates.

This is really one niche design piece with big date. Too bad... quartz only.
Other models available are...

I have a friend in UK who might be coming back end of the year, plus another going to US soon. Which would be a better place to get? From the respective Amazon stores, US looks like a better bet.

train clock Bauhaus style watches are unlikely to give you that oooommmpphh that you are looking for, oncle. It's meant to be "quiet", "understated" & "functional". It has only one purpose in its existence, to tell time, very accurately. Here's my Bauhaus as a contrast to mondaine:

Got this automatic watch 15 year ago in Switzerland. Time keeping still very good. Watch case is similar to the railway clock. The current version watch case is different.
Too bad this version is not in production now.

Nice. The dial design is exactly the same. Which is the point of a Mondaine I suppose.

Tried the actual watch at store, it's cool but the sweep of the seconds hand isn't as smooth as in the promo video.
