JDM vs other Seiko
JDM vs other Seiko
Was at Bencoolen today.
Went to the shop beside 3D Trading which has 2 racks full of JDMs.
General glance the JDMs are much nicer as compared to 3D Trading.
These are based on limited experience with these 2 shops. Am I going to the right shops?
The normal seiko fair that bad.
Also regarding prices the normal Seikos are 30% off, what about JDMs?
Last but not least, as there sooooo many models how do you guys see which series? Not like Omega there is seamaster , speedmaster and rolex daytona, submariner etc.
Hehe..
Thanks and Cheers.

Japan Demostic Market Series , are ussually higher quality than some of Seiko's international series at the same price point .
Re: JDM vs other Seiko
Does it come with also the standard 30% discount hehe?
Where are the places that I can see more of the JDMs?

The J-suffix I can see is pretty nice compared to the normal ones.
Re: JDM vs other Seiko
J suffix models which are made in Japan, in another words, assembled over there whereas K suffix are assembled in Asia
JDM are Japan Domestic Market model, released only within Japan market, Sumo, Prospex series.
So far, only Thong Sia, Big TIme carries JDM models locally.
Superchrono also carries some JDM models

Re: JDM vs other Seiko
I'm new when it comes to Seiko too. The model numbers are totally confusing but i must applaud they being able to churn out so many different models.
Correct me if i am wrong but J suffix means 'Made in Japan' whereas K suffix is made outside of Japan. JDM means models that are intended to be sold in Japan only. I don't know enough to be able to say with certainty whether there are any JDM's that are made outside of Japan though my limited experience with Seiko's seems to suggest that most (if not all) JDM's are indeed made in Japan.
Difference between J & K suffixes sometimes may be a slightly different finish but difference in quality is far harder to ascertain. There may be no difference in quality.

Re: JDM vs other Seiko
Not quite. There are a couple of JDM models made outside of Japan. At the very least, the Night Monsters are made elsewhere (China if I recall correctly). It's powered by a 7S movement, think that might be part of it?doyc76 wrote:I don't know enough to be able to say with certainty whether there are any JDM's that are made outside of Japan though my limited experience with Seiko's seems to suggest that most (if not all) JDM's are indeed made in Japan.
The higher priced watches, with their higher priced movements, definitely seem to be MIJ. Are any movements below the 6R's made anywhere else, whether the watch is made for Japan or otherwise? Otoh, not sure any higher-end watches are offered as non-JDM, though you do see exceptions in HK, Taiwan and perhaps the LE's in Thailand.
