mod project #4 (22/6/10) - white "desk diver"
i'm glad you guys like the mods and restorations i hv done.
Like CEO, i oso have a thing for white dials , so this mod project #4 what purely for fun!
i had a white BFS dial that was lying in my spare parts box for the longest time, so i chose to get a beat up skx023j case as the base for this mod (another dead cheapy seiko from the bay!)
after some clean up with the good ol' wet-n-dry and autosol, it looked quite presentable
with a 7s26 movt from my never worn seiko 5, on went the BFS dial and the sumo hands (from Rob: monsterwatches.com)
now all it needs is an aftermarket bezel.
the aftermarket bezel was thinner than the original, so I had to sand down the bezel lip a little so the edges aren't so sharp.
other than that, it fits just fine!
throw on a new 20mm silicone tropic styled strap from K2 and some background for those glamor shot
Lastly... BFS dial and Sumo hands means one thing: Serious LUME!
next post will be my favourite... mod project #5: SBBN-6309!

Time is free, but it's priceless. You can't
own it, but you can use it. You can't keep
it, but you can spend it. Once you've lost it
you can never get it back.

hi bro big, just for my knowledge purpose, wld there b any leakage issue when we change our crystal, say to sapphire type? And how do we prevent such issue if any?
Re: mod project #4 (22/6/10) - white "desk diver"
if the sapphire xtal is made the same size as the original xtal and the gaskets are good, there shouldn't be any issues for daily wear and washing hands.dragonboat02 wrote:hi bro big, just for my knowledge purpose, wld there b any leakage issue when we change our crystal, say to sapphire type? HOWEVER, if you are going to dive with it, it is best to get it pressure tested.

But pardon my ignorant, pressure testin is not easily avail at normal watchmaker right?
Re: mod project #4 (22/6/10) - white "desk diver"
Nope. Pressure testing not so easily available.dragonboat02 wrote:Thanks bro..big-e-294 wrote:if the sapphire xtal is made the same size as the original xtal and the gaskets are good, there shouldn't be any issues for daily wear and washing hands.

bro, which autosol product you use to polish the watch ar?
mind sharing what are the tools you use to mod the watch?

Re: mod project #4 (22/6/10) - white "desk diver"
I just use the autosol for stainless steel (black tube). To polish u can do by hand, but since I hv a dremel tool, I just use the buffing tool bit. Makes the job faster.wudi700 wrote:bro, which autosol product you use to polish the watch ar?

But u need to prepare the surface first and even out the scratches.
For that I use wet sandpaper for metal - starting with grit 400 and then grit 600.
This will remove most fine scratches without removing too much metal and changing the lines of the case.
After this I will buff with autosol.
Modding I just use basic watch tools:
presto handslifter,
hand setters,
caseback opener,
dial protector (just a piece of plastic),
loupe (so u can see),
tweezers,
blower,
silicone grease for gasket
glue (for bezel inserts if needed).
That's it.
